2012-02-01 19:34

Her name is Melissa, is developed by the JRC, Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, the Island of Giglio and is used by the Coast Guard to monitor the wreck of the ship Costa Concordia and to give precise and accurate information on the movements of the vessel during operations search and retrieval, which are often suspended and then resumed depending on sea conditions. And 'an innovative radar imaging system in particular, can detect the movements of objects with high accuracy and resolution (both night and day to every type of weather) can take "pictures" up to 140 times in one second and, in the case of Concord, with only 2 shots per second can be measured more than 100 points of the ship. Experts believe that this system will have a key role in the coming days, both to support the extraction of fuel, and to continuously monitor the ship in view of its subsequent removal and recovery.
